How the world has changed!
My business partner and I use Google Documents and Spreadsheets. We also use Google to manage our company email accounts. (Learn how: Where to get a business email address?) Whenever possible, we try to use Google products over Microsoft.
How did this happen?
Microsoft makes its money from charging users and companies to buy software. Even when Microsoft gives out a free product, they tend to feel like a teaser for the paid version.
- On the other hand, Google provides individuals with “full and complete” versions of its products for free. In many cases (like Documents and Spreadsheets) , there is not even advertising.
- I associate Microsoft with buggy software which needs to be upgraded often.
- I think of Google as dependable and problem free.
When Fit Small Business was recently putting together a list of CRM providers for small businesses, we were aware that Microsoft (Dynamics) had a product and were heavily advertising it. However, our opinion of the brand was so low, that we didn’t give serious consideration to including it in our comparison of CRM systems.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM could be a great product, but we now live in a world with lots of choices. In the small business CRM space, there is Salesforce.com, Sugar CRM, Insightly, Nimble, and many others. We decided to focus our efforts on three companies. In a world of many competitors, Microsoft Dynamics wasn’t going to get our fist look. What CRM systems did we review?
