We considered the following criteria when grading this cash-back business card, based on business owner wants and needs:

This Huntington National Bank business credit card suffers in our ratings because it offers no introductory rewards.

This card does, however, offer 0% APR for 12 months on balance transfers. Plus, you’ll pay a lower balance transfer fee than other cards charge. The Chase Ink Business UnlimitedSM charges a 5% balance transfer fee.

Your payment due date is at least 21 days after the close of the business cycle. Pay your balance in full by the due date to avoid interest charges. If interest is charged on your Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM, you’ll pay a minimum of $1.
The potential due date on this card could be shorter than other cards, like the Wells Fargo Business Elite Card®, which has a payment due date at 25 days after the close of the business cycle.
Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Rewards
The Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM offers bonus category rewards on spending on one of 10 categories from which you can choose. It offers no introductory rewards, which could significantly reduce this card’s first-year value. You can earn $500 cash back with the Chase Ink Business CashSM card after you spend $3,000 within three months. Like the Huntington card, the Chase card charges no annual fee.
You’ll earn the following introductory and ongoing rewards with this Huntington National Bank card:
Huntington National Bank offers no introductory rewards with this card. Most small business credit cards—even cards that charge an annual fee—offer introductory rewards of $250 to $500 after you meet spending requirements. The American Express Blue Business® Plus is a notable exception. It does not offer introductory rewards.
You will earn the following ongoing rewards when using your card:
- 4% cash back on the first $7,000 spent each quarter on one spending category you choose from a list of 10
- 1% cash back on all other purchases
You can change which category you want to pay 4% once per quarter. The categories eligible for the bonus are gas stations; travel and entertainment; restaurants; discount and warehouse stores; grocery stores; utilities and office supply stores; electronics, computer and camera stores; department, apparel, and sporting goods stores; home improvement stores; and auto parts and service stores.
Depending on the category you choose, you may not be able to find a card that offers higher rewards. The American Express® Business Gold Card, for example, offers 4x points on U.S. purchases at gas stations and U.S. purchases at restaurants.
The Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM won’t pay rewards for:
- Cash advances
- Balance transfers, balance transfer checks, and cash advance checks
- Overdraft protection
- Casino gaming chips, off-track wagers, lottery tickets, bets or wagers transmitted over the internet, or any other items considered as “quasi-cash”
- Wire transfers
These restrictions on earning rewards are common among business credit cards that offer rewards programs. There is no cap on the number of non-bonus rewards you can earn in a quarter.
Rewards never expire, but you will lose all of your unredeemed rewards if your account is closed or you commit any fraud or abuse related to the accrual of rewards on your account. Your points will be frozen if your account is in default, but will be made available to you when the account is brought back into good standing.
How to Redeem Your Rewards
You can redeem your rewards for cash back, gift cards, travel, and merchandise through the Huntington business credit card website. Redemption value for all options is one cent per point. You must redeem a minimum of 2,500 points for cash, 10,000 for each hotel room, and 20,000 for a flight. When redeeming for cash, you can receive a statement credit or a deposit into an eligible checking or savings account.
It’s not unusual for credit cards to set minimum redemptions, although not all cards have this requirement. The Capital One® Spark Cash® for Business, for example, has no minimum redemption requirement, while the American Express Business Platinum Card® requires a 5,000-point minimum when using your points to book travel.
Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Additional Features
Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM offers several travel and purchase protections as complimentary perks, including rental car insurance and extended warranty protection. These perks are not uncommon for a small business credit card, but cardholders frequently overlook them.
You’ll receive the following free additional benefits with your Huntington business credit card:
Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
When you rent a car using your Huntington National Bank business card, you’re covered in case of accident or theft. Coverage is primary only if you have no other insurance or you’ve rented the vehicle outside the United States and your insurance doesn’t cover you. Otherwise, this rental coverage is secondary and will cover only the deductible on your personal insurance. Many credit cards, like the Chase Ink Business Preferred®, offer primary coverage.
What’s Covered With Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Rental Insurance
The auto rental collision damage waiver covers damage due to collision or theft. Rentals of 31 consecutive days or less are eligible. You’ll also be covered for towing charges and loss-of-use charges incurred by the rental car company. The rented vehicle must be valued at $50,000 or less. Such coverage caps are not uncommon among small business credit cards. The American Express Business Platinum Card®, for example, caps coverage at $75,000.
What’s Excluded From Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Rental Insurance
The following auto rental collision damage waiver coverage limits apply:
- Trucks, pickups, full-size vans, cargo vans, campers, off-road vehicles, and other recreational vehicles
- Trailers, motorbikes, motorcycles, and any other vehicle having fewer than four wheels
- Vehicles that are more than 20 years old or have not been manufactured for at least 10 years
- Personal items stolen from the vehicle
These restrictions are common among credit cards that offers rental car insurance, regardless of whether that insurance is primary or secondary.
Huntington may repair, replace, or reimburse for items purchased with your Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM that are damaged or stolen within 90 days of purchase. Coverage is limited to $10,000 per item, up to $50,000 per year. Business credit cards that offer this coverage typically limit coverage to either 90 or 120 days after purchase. Chase Ink Business CashSM offers 120 days of protection.
What Purchases Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Covers
To be covered, you must have purchased the item entirely with your Huntington credit card or with points. The coverage is secondary to other insurance you may have that would reimburse you for your loss. Many cards offer primary coverage on purchase protection, so this coverage is more limited than most.
What Purchases Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Excludes
The following purchases are not covered by purchase protection:
- Motorized vehicles, including, but not limited to, automobiles, watercraft and boats, aircraft, and motorcycles
- Traveler’s checks, tickets of any kind, rare or precious metals, stamps and coins, and currency or its equivalent.
- Plants, shrubs, animals, pets, consumables, and perishables
- Professional services
- Medical equipment
- Perishables or consumables
- Real estate
- Rented or leased items
- Used or pre-owned items
These exclusions are common among small business credit cards that offer purchase protection. There is no small business credit card that we’ve reviewed that waives exclusions like these.
Extended Warranty Protection
Huntington will double the original manufacturer’s warranty by up to an additional year on warranties of five years or less, up to a maximum of $10,000 per claim. Other credit cards offer more robust protection.
What Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Extended Warranty Protection Covers
You must have charged some portion of the purchase to your card or used reward points to make the purchase. The coverage begins the day after the original manufacturer’s warranty expires. All credit cards that offer extended warranty protection require that the purchase be made with the credit card to be eligible for the protection.
What Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Extended Warranty Protection Excludes
The following purchases are not covered by extended warranty protection:
- Used or antique items
- Collectibles of any kind that do not come with a manufacturer warranty
- Floor models that do not come with an original manufacturer warranty
- Motorized vehicles, including automobiles, watercraft and boats, aircraft, and motorcycles
- Land and any buildings
- Plants, shrubs, animals, pets, consumables, and perishables
- Professional services
- All types of media with stored data or music, including computer software, DVDs, video cassettes, CDs, film, and audio cassettes
These types of restrictions are common among business credit cards that offer extended warranty coverage.
Adding Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Employee Credit Cards
You may add employee credit cards at no cost. Most small business credit card issuers (with the exception of American Express) charge no fee on employee credit cards, even if the primary card carries an annual fee. Huntington says you may “obtain an unlimited number of employee cards.”
If your company needs more than 100 cards or your annual revenue exceeds $4 million, you should consider a corporate credit card. Corporate credit cards may come with more robust spending controls and the ability to more quickly issue cards to employees than small business credit cards.
What Huntington Voice Business Credit CardSM Is Missing
Most small businesses will not be able to apply for this card, as it’s available only in the eight states in which Huntington has branches: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. If your business is located outside one of these states, consider the Chase Ink Business CashSM card, which offers up to 5% cash back in ongoing rewards.
Additionally, while it offers top rewards on some spending categories, if you travel frequently, you can find a card that has fewer restrictions (like a $7,000 quarterly spending cap) and offers higher rewards. The best business credit cards for travel offer ongoing rewards of up to 5% on airfare and hotel purchases. The American Express Business Platinum Card® offers 5x points on flights and prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com.
