Below is a list of what are in our opinion the best products and services for small business owners. How did we come up with this list? Simple. We use each of these products and services in our small business every day. If we don’t use it, its not on the list.
We use GoDaddy for the following services:
- Domain name registration
- Email Forwarding
What do we use GoDaddy? Because their prices are good and their support is the best in the industry. This is especially important if you are a do it yourself type of person like we are here at Fit Small Business. We have gotten hours of free support from GoDaddy for everything from setting up hosting and email for our sites to installing WordPress.
WordPress.org is the content management system that we use on all of our sites. Before wordpress if you wanted to build a website, you had to be fluent in html and how to use FTP and several other things that the average person doesn’t care to mess with. With wordpress setting up a website is about as easy as using Microsoft Word. Their product is super popular and used by sites ranging from 1 person bloggers, to the NYTimes.com. Best of all its 100% free.Vistaprint.com
We order all our business cards through Vistaprint.com. They make it easy for even the layperson to come up with a professional looking business card. They also have the lowest prices in the business at around $15 for 250 cards.
If you are not familiar with PayPal, it is an online payments service which can be used to pay for most things online. We also use it to pay our freelancers. The key with paypal is that we don’t have to give your credit card information to sites or freelancers that we might not know all that well in order to buy goods and services. Paypal handles the transaction and takes a small % fee for doing so.
When we need to send a professional looking invoice, we use Freshbooks.com. In addition to giving you the ability to add your logo and company information it also gives your client’s the ability to click on a link in the invoice and pay you by PayPal automatically. That makes getting paid a breeze, and best of all Freshbooks.com is free for up to 3 client’s.
We use quickbooks online for all of our accounting needs. After following the simple steps to hook our business checking account into the program now all of our transactions flow directly into quickbooks. Once a month I go through and categorize the new transactions and then can easily run a variety of reports to see everything from our balance sheet to income statement.
We use MailChimp.com for our email newsletters. Mailchimp makes it easy for us to:
- Create email signup forms for our website
- Setup lists which can be divided into sub categories.
- Design nice looking email templates
- Track open and click rates on our emails after they are sent
- Make sure we are compliant with Spam regulations
If all we need is a basic form without any styling we use the free form creator available through Google Drive. When we need a more sophisticated form with better design capabilities such as responsive templates and the ability to specify what fields appear based on what the user selects then we use Coffee Cup forms.
Since joining Amazon Prime around 2 years ago we rarely visit another store for everything from our small business supplies, to the tea we like to drink in our office, to our desk chairs. For $79 a year we get free 2 day shipping on all those items and more. This not only saves us a ton of time traveling to and from the store, but also allows us to easily compare prices and make sure we are getting the best deal.
- Website design
- WordPress tweaks
- Solving website technical issues
- Link building
- Website content writing
Because we can hire workers from anywhere in the world, we are able to get projects done for a fraction of the price than would otherwise be the case. We are also able to tackle projects that before Freelancer.com and Elance.com would have required hiring full time designers and programmers.
