What does the company do well? Customer service is probably at the top of the things I like about WP Engine. Every time we needed help, we got it pretty quickly and with a REAL native english speaker. You better believe it! :-)I am pleased with speed and reliability, but I think many hosts can offer that. It's when things don't work out quite the way you want that you find out who is really there for you and who is not. WP Engine's team is there for us.
What does the company not do well? Tough to say. We have used our fair share of WPS hosting services and a few of Wordpress-optimized hosting services. They offer the best for our small team (We don't have an IT department) with a web site that gets about 1 Million unique visitors each year. They are not the cheapest ones out there, but I do feel that we get what we paid for and I am happy about that.I am still waiting for a scalable option. Google has a pay-per-bandwidth and process use plan, but is terribly complicated to setup. Something like that would be great.
What about the company do you wish you had known before purchasing? I read their new site recently to check out their new managed service. What I read there matched up pretty well what I experienced and saw on the back end, but I would have liked to have known more about some of the restrictions in terms of plugins that they will not allow and how page revisions are handled. Only 3 are allowed, and that's if you make a special request for that, otherwise, I am pretty sure the limit is set to 1 revision stored per page/post.
