What does the company do well? Upwork makes connecting freelancers with businesses very easy. There are jobs posted daily of various skill levels. Seasoned freelancers can find some higher end clientele and help build their portfolio. Their payment schedule works, taking the extra time to become a verified freelancer definitely helps attract solid jobs. I find that there are very little SPAM jobs and they do work hard to ensure that.
What does the company not do well? The pricing tiers I feel are a bit steep coming from a freelancer that has been around a while. Since oDesk was switched to Upwork, there have been changes that I have not particularly been fond of because it ends up costing the freelancer more income initially when taking on a new client. If you do have a long relationship with a client in billable hours, those pricing tiers do drop significantly.
What do you wish you had known about the company before using? I have been freelancing on Upwork since they were oDesk, so there have been changes along the way. Obviously not all change is for the better, but what changes have been made does not make me want to leave in anyway. I feel that the positives of Upwork by far outweigh the negatives.
