What does the software or service do well? The Shopify POS is such an easy way to sell your products at different events. I'm primarily an online store, but I do craft fairs and wholesale events occasionally. I love that all of my products from my online shop automatically show up in the POS with the thumbnail image so I have a detailed itemized record of what I sold. It's also nice that the transactions and customers automatically sync to the orders page on my website backend. The fact that Shopify has its own POS system means that I don't have to use a separate POS program for my shows and that saves me so much time!
What does the software or service not do well? I still haven't figured out how to easily change the sales tax on my items when I'm selling at a retail event in another city--each city in my state, California, has a different sales tax rate, so this is something I need to do regularly. When I spoke with customer service, it wasn't clear how I could do this without creating an entirely new location and assigning all of my items to that location, which is a lot of work for each tax rate.
What do you wish you had known about the software or service before using? I wish I had known about the tax rate issue because it means that I need to go back to my other POS options and update them all with my new items in order to use it for shows.
Have you used a competitor to the software or service? If so, how does it compare? I've used Square for my POS. While Square is very easy to use and suits most of my needs, it does not sync with my online store (previously Squarespace and now Shopify), so I have to enter my items in manually twice when I update my collections. I prefer to have everything in one place and Shopify POS allows me to do this.
