What does the software or service do well?
We are using Oracle CRM On Demand for tracking sales, opportunities and customer contacts. The data is owned by the sales people and they are responsible for entry and updates. This is one crucial aspect for any CRM system that you use because in our case it drives the marketing campaigns, business forecasts and even the commissions paid to the sales agents. Oracle CRM On Demand provides an easy way of entering/maintaining the data and offers an acceptable level of customization with the custom fields and custom dependency rules. Basic reporting is also there so a company that doesn't have too many fancy requirements for reports could use them successfully.
What does the software or service not do well?
In our case, we have specific requirements for data entry/update, reporting and alerting which Oracle CRM On Demand doesn't support. One easy scenario is like this: let's say a sales person is behind with his/hers updates on the owned opportunities; we wanted a way to enforce updating those before doing anything else in the system. We ended up building a custom app on top of CRM On Demand. The User Interface could use an up-lift as nowadays people are expecting more modern and very intuitive designs.
What do you wish you had known about the software or service before using?
When we adopted Oracle CRM On Demand, our need was to have a single source of truth for customer data: prospects, contacts and opportunities. We have achieved that goal and used this software for many years. Our specific requirements came into the picture at a later point in time and that is when we discovered its limitations. If we knew that in advance we may have choose something else.
Have you used a competitor to the software or service? If so, how does it compare?
We changed Oracle CRM On Demand with NetSuite CRM, as a part of ERP change from Oracle to NetSuite.
