What does SEMRush do well?
I use SEMRush proactively and reactively for my clients. The feature set is robust and addresses SEO, PPC, and social media. There are also good reporting functions, and online dashboards. There is even a robust blog and some great analyses that the company does with all of the data it needs to create its main product line.
What does SEMRush not do well?
Pricing has confused me. The tiers have different levels of reports or access for different types of data. I'm sure that the team there works hard to simplify the pricing, but it's still confusing. And because pricing ranges from $99-$399/month, it's worth your time to understand. (That said, the $99 price point is an incredible value).
What do you wish you had known about SEMRush before using?
I had been an SEMRush customer in the past, but wasn't using it enough to justify whatever I was paying. As the company added more services, it became indispensable to me. I don't think that they do a good job in the industry showing the breadth of their services.
Have you used a competitor to SEMRush? If so, how does it compare?
I've given up other tools because SEMRush handles most of what I used them for including one that had grandfathered pricing from years ago. The cost of those tools actually covers the SEMRush monthly fee. Even if they didn't, SEMRush has become an important tool in my practice.
