What does Slack do well?
Slack desktop and mobile app is great. It's been imperative for live communication with internal partners and employees. Our team is spread nationwide (and global) and it's been a great central engine for all of our notification and communication efforts. Easy interfaces and UX. Easy onboarding. Enterprise/Paid functionality is needed to get the whole use of features and value.
What does Slack not do well?
Adding external workspaces can be quite confusing and challenging. Sometimes, the noise of communications can be overwhelming and can dilute the information, making announcements difficult to filter. The search functionality of messages can be improved.
What do you wish you had known about Slack before using?
Lifetime of free/trial chat history is too limited and short. It requires you to be a paid user to get the full value.More privacy and personal options around notifications/announcements/messages. Needs more customization.
Have you used a competitor to Slack? If so, how does it compare?
Previously, we utilized Gchat (Google Chat) for all of our internal communication and messaging. We still use G-Drive, but Slack offers so much more collaboration functionality that it was a no-brainer to switch over.
