Are images permitted in Press Releases?
Can an image of the cover of a book be included in the Publishers Press Release announcing its publication?
Yes – absolutely. But send good pics – thinking of your publication you’re trying to get into. If the publication is printed, you’ll need to send an image 2 times larger than you would expect to see it on a screen:
So think of a 5″ x 7″ image – measured in pixels that image is 1500 x 2100 pixels in size – but if you wanted it to reproduce well on a web page, you could send an image 750 x 1050 pixels wide and that would be perfect.
Also think about making their lives easy – send a caption message with your release that relates to / explains the picture.
Send CMYK format for pics going into print and RGB format for pics going online.
Remember every editor and photo editor is crying out for GOOD content – so make sure you use the best pics you can take / can afford to have taken. A lot of stuff they get is less than great and goes straight in the bin.
