We are a nonprofit currently running a 2009 version of QB desktop. We want to convert to online. Will we need to update the desktop version before we can import data? Thanks
Hi Michael, congrats on deciding to make the move to QBO! In order to convert your data to QBO, you must be using the 2016 or later version of QuickBooks Desktop. However, you don’t need to purchase it. Intuit allows you to download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop 2016 and then you can upgrade your existing 2009 data to 2016 before you convert over to QuickBooks Online.
Here is a link to the support article I found and if you scroll down about 1/2 way you will see the link to download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop 2016:https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started-with-QuickBooks/The-Conversion-Process-The-QuickBooks-Guide-to-Converting/ta-p/175023
Best of luck,
