How long did you have your bookkeeping business and how much can one make in a year doing viritual bookkeeping. I look forward to hearing back from you.
I started my bookkeeping business as a “side gig” while still working as a full-time Accounting Manager. Because my job only required me to work about 45 hours per week(my previous job I averaged 70 hours/week), I did most of my client work in the evening and on the weekends. I went full-time with my bookkeeping practice in January 2010 and I landed Intuit as a client in 2013. After completing a few training projects that were very successful, Intuit offered me a full-time position and I decided to close my practice. So if you add up the 3 years I did bookkeeping as my “side gig” and the 3 plus years full-time, it’s about 6 ½ years.
As far as how much money you can make doing virtual bookkeeping that varies depending on your experience and the education that you have. The more you have of both, the higher your hourly rate which can run between $25/hour & up. If you have an accounting background or a degree then you should consider becoming a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. This is what I did before I ever started my practice and it is one of the reasons why I was successful. If you don’t have any accounting/bookkeeping background then I recommend that you become a Certified Bookkeeper. I have included two links below, one is a step by step guide on how to become a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and the other one is how to become a Certified Bookkeeper.
I wish you much success in your future endeavors Theresa!
Best of luck,
