I have a bookkeeping services, and I struggle to find a great niche to focus on. I have several different types of experience in working with different business in accounting role. I have also learned about different types of industry as an accounting and bookkeeping role from where I received my certification in education for this trade.
But, I’m still not sure of what fit for my business and what would grow my business at the same time in the small business industry. Is that something that you do as advisement to small business owner?
Thanks for listing,

Hi Consandra, this is a terrific question and one that I struggled with several years ago in my bookkeeping business. In the beginning, you pretty much take the clients that you can get. Hopefully within a year’s time you will have worked with enough clients to get a sense of what type of businesses you like working with. Keep in mind that this is your business so if there is a particular industry that you have worked and enjoyed or would like to work in then you should go after those type of clients.
For example, in California there a thousands of people in the real estate business. With that said, the folks who have 1-2 properties and/or doing this on a part-time basis typically use an Excel spreadsheet or nothing to keep track of their income and expenses. If I were going to target those folks I would do some research to see if they have a professional organization that is here locally that I could attend to do some networking. You could also see if they have any upcoming conferences and reach out to the host to see if you could be a speaker.
I hope this helps.
Good luck to you!
