First off, thank you for your service. Also, getting your real estate license is an excellent way to learn the ins and outs of buying and selling real estate for investment. The only potential sticking point is that many brokerages will want you to produce at a minimum level as an agent. If you’re not getting deals done and attending weekly sales meetings, most will not keep your license associated with the brokerage.
Instead, you might want to try your hand at actually working as an agent for a year or two to get your feet wet. As an added bonus, many large brokerages offer programs specifically for veterans looking to get into real estate. Just google large brokerage names and veterans. Century 21 for example offers discounts for veterans on real estate courses:
