I am wondering why a moving company will not add a certificate holder?
At present, their Insurance certificate just says to whom it may concern in their ‘certificate holder’ section. The business we want the items collected from have asked for their company to be added as a certificate holder. I thought this should be a simple request? Their manager says that it is not something that they do and that she has never been asked for it before. That doesn’t make it right.
Any advice is much appreciated
Thank you for your question. In this case, I would do two things. The first is make sure the “To Whom It May Concern” certificate is current and call the insurance company to verify current coverage. I hate to say that some people will try to use something that wasn’t kept updated.
Second, you are correct, it isn’t right and shouldn’t be a big problem. Certificates of insurance are issued every day. The only thing I can think of is that this company has a cut-rate insurance carrier who charges for every certificate they issue (sometimes $25). Most companies don’t and many actually do it for free for policyholders online.
The business has every right to get that certificate and if a company is not willing to provide it, I would be a little suspicious.
Hope that answers the question. Feel free to check back in.
