Illinois Workman’s Compensation for an Independant Contractor
My LLC shelters my rental properties. I have an independent contractor who does work two to three times a year around my properties. His jobs have included; carpentry, floor laying, bathroom tile, hanging cabinets, etc.
To protect myself and my company do I need to provide workman’s compensation to him?
Thanks for your question. Depending on what state you’re in, a business might or might not need to provide workers comp insurance for contract workers. However, although I’m not a licensed attorney, it sure looks to me like you need to cover your contract worker in Illinois.
It’s best you talk to your local insurance agent as they’ll advise you on what’s the best type of insurance to have and whether your existing business insurance already has you covered. Here are some articles that may also help. Best of luck to you!
