Hi ! My question is I bought a small business and the former owner took all her customers moved to less than 0.2 mile rent a station to work there ? If it’s illegal what can I do ? Thank you
I’m so sorry this happened. While there’s no law that prevents her opening a business, if you have a non-compete agreement with the seller, you may be able to sue for damages. However, without a non-complete agreement prohibiting her from stealing customers and relocating nearby, you may be in a bad spot. I recommend you take a look at our non-compete article, review your purchase agreement and consider retaining an attorney. Good luck. Here are articles that can help.
