Just gitting the limit of 10 with fill-in employee’s
I do payroll for a dental office. We have one employee who got injured, and one who is going on maternity leave. With the two employees that will be replacing these two employees, that will put us at 11 employees for 2018. Do we need to start paying out sick leave? We already put “unpaid sick leave” on their pay stubs, and they are accruing their time, so they know what they have accrued, but they have not currently been paid, since we were under the 10 employee threshold.
Just want to make sure we are still good.

More and more states are requiring paid sick leave at certain thresholds (number of employees, etc.) Since I don’t know what state you’re in, I can’t comment on the requirements as they vary significantly across geographies.
