My home flooded due to Harvey, I been making payments for a year since Harvey but, not leaving in the home. I can no longer invest in the home or pay the mortgage as I am renting an apartment. Can I let go the house go without it being reported on my credit? So, in the future if I will like to buy a new home, I would be able to.
Thanks so much for visiting our site and posting on the forum. I’m so sorry to hear that your house flooded during Harvey. This is a tricky situation if you’re owner financing a home, and I would recommend speaking to the seller, looking at your contract and if you can’t work something out, then you may need to speak to a local real estate attorney. He/she should better be able to tell you what your rights and responsibilities are with regards to paying a mortgage on an uninhabitable home.
I hope things improve and wish you all the best.
