Tagged: leasing retail space
I’m looking to lease retail space to open up a Comic/Anime/Video Game shop. I don’t want to get something to small cause I plan to eventually hold Card, Tabletop, and video game tournaments as well as Cosplay when I get a big enough customer base. I was wondering about how big of space would I need to start out. I only have 20k start off money. Any advice would be awesome, thanks.
So much of this decision depends on your location (city/suburb), your potential walk-in traffic, and competition — both locally and online — and the rents in the area you’re considering. While growth is important, it’s also important to not go broke at first by overcommitting to a lease that you can’t afford. It’s best to start small, then if your growth dictates a larger space, worry about that when you have the sales to support it. Remember, for the occasional event, you can always rent an event location which is a far more controllable cost than a too-large monthly rent. Our retail space location article has some good pointers, too. Hope this helps. Good luck!
