  Hi Sarah:

  Thank you for your question. Generally, you would need to go to your municipality’s office of planning and building (names of the office vary)and apply for a petition for rezoning. You need to know the current zoning and what you need the zoning to be reclassified as and there are application fees involved. Then there will be a review of your application by the zoning board. I’ve personally gone through this process and it can be long and expensive, so I recommend consulting with a real estate attorney in your state.
