What are the most effective ways to drive traffic to a new website?
I recently started up my new website for my business. I am currently getting little to no web visits. What are some ways I can drive traffic to my site?

There are many ways to drive traffic to your website, but it depends on your budget and timeframe. If you’re looking to get traffic right away, consider PPC (Google Ads) or social media advertising. These both require you to pay-per-click, but it’s usually a sure fire way to get traffic to your website quickly. One note here is unless you’re optimizing and closely monitoring these campaigns, you may see a higher bounce rate on your website due to unqualified leads.
In my opinion, the best way to drive traffic to your website is through SEO. It’s a long game, so don’t expect traffic overnight, however once you begin optimizing your website and seeing your site rank higher on search engines, SEO will not only bring more qualified leads to your website, but it will be pretty consistent traffic if not increased sessions month-over-month.
Some SEO strategies include link building, publishing a new blog post to your website regularly and claiming or updating your business listings on sites like Google and Yelp. Other items to consider is mobile-friendliness and pagespeed. These are more technical optimizations, but they can be very important if your users are on-the-go when they’re looking for your service or product.

This question is a great one that has become some important as buying traffic has become more expensive than years past. The first thing we must know is, “What type of company is this website for and where is your target demographic online?” This is so important to know because in order to get the best return on your marketing ad spend, you need to know where the attention of your convertible traffic lies. If it is on any search engine, which most is, then SEO is the best place to focus your efforts. I would do as much research as possible to ensure your SEO efforts are productive because of how much of a time investment is involved in a good SEO strategy.
Social media channels (Facebook, IG, YouTube, etc.) are also excellent ways to drive traffic to your site, if you believe that your target customers search for sites like yours on those platforms. Understanding your customer demographics and the analytics behind usage on each channel is going to be essential for effectively driving traffic appropriately.

If you have a budget it is my opinion that your best option is to get short-term traffic, and hopefully, leads/sales, would be ads. Some of the places you can run ads include Google AdWords, Bing AdCenter, Facebook & Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Yelp. I wouldn’t suggest running ads in any of these until you’ve done some research on best practices for each and possibly take some courses to learn them.
If you’re looking for good long-term traffic I feel like you might want to take a look at SEO and social media. SEO can provide you with affordable traffic that can help to offset the cost of ads. You will want to read blogs such as Search Engine Land, Moz, Search Engine Journal. and SEO By The Sea among others. If you have a new site you might not get much of an ROI for some time, which is why some people opt for paid ads.
Social media is a good traffic source as well if you’re able to become an influencer, or team up with influential people on social media communities.
Overall, It’s my opinion that no matter what avenue you choose you will want to be creative, look at what similar companies are doing, educate yourself as much as possible, and provide value to your community in everything you do :).

Prior answers were about how to get paid traffic, so I will suggest some free and low-cost ways to get traffic to your new website. These tips will get you traffic more quickly than SEO, which is a long-term marketing strategy.
Social media, both posting on your own profiles and joining groups and boards, can generate highly-targeted, and profitable, traffic quickly. Most industries and cities have dedicated groups or networks on popular sites such as Facebook and Linkedin. Join in and participate by giving value such as your expert advice and information. Give first – sell later for best results.
Another way to get referral website traffic is to post answers to questions on popular sites such as Quora and Reddit. Remember to be generous with your input and light on sales copy. Recently I posted an answer about a topic in my niche which has generated substantial traffic within 2 weeks – at no cost!
Also, you could collaborate with related, but not competitive, sites to offer contributions of articles, often called Guest Posts. Most webmasters welcome high-quality, and useful content to offer their readers. Include a link back to your website.

And if we talk about to drive traffic to a site via these platforms then social media and referral are recommended platform to increase traffic to a site. There are a million ways. SEO, social media, and paid ads are the best choices for most websites.
But without knowing what your business is or what type of traffic you want, it’s impossible to say what’s best for you.
Some of the lesser-recommended methods:
- Podcast sponsorship
- Forum threads. Chime in where your audience is talking
- Reddit Ads and/or comments
- Pinterest Ads and/or posts
- Cold outreach (phone/email)
- YouTube pre-roll Ads
- Location beacons (but personally I hate these)
- Local newspapers:
- PR/featured stories
- and good old fashioned PR — get journalists writing about you!
- easier said than done, of course

Hello Sam, looks like a lot of good responses. One last thing, if you are interested in local traffic to your website – don’t forget local SEO marketing – specifically setting up a strong local SEO foundation. This would include reviewing your NAP(Name, Address Phone Number – essentially your business listing information) on digital platforms for consistency, build a citation strategy using MOZ local, Yext or another platform, finally optimize local review sites like Google My Business, Yelp, and FourSquare. This will give you a good foundation to help drive more visits to your site form local businesses or individuals.

If you have established your new website, but you need to drive traffic to it for it to survive and serve its purpose of being a virtual extension of your business. There are several proven effective ways to get your website into the search engine’s radar and eventually, your target audience’s attention.
1. Develop a responsive website.
2. Add quality content.
Your content is the heart of your website. By regularly producing quality content, your website can rise in the search engine rankings. Make sure to add original, concise content that aims to educate and inform your audience.
3. Go on social media.
Facebook, with its two billion active users each month, can help you establish your fan base and start engaging them so they will keep visiting your website, driving traffic to it. Go on Twitter and Instagram, too. Keep your followers’ interest with engaging posts, ask them questions, run polls, go live, offer promotions, and post informative articles, infographics, and videos.
4. Try guest blogging.
Network with fellow bloggers and website owners who have the same audience as you. Find blogs with related content to yours and reach out to them if they are interested in guest posts. Tell them how your post can help their blog and help yours, too. When they say yes, observe their guidelines and create an informative article, complete with links to your new site.
Promoting your website to increase traffic can sometimes be a slow and complex process, but doing it the right way will pay off in the end.
