You can often get workers compensation insurance through a small business payroll provider. Here are options. For instance, you might try Gusto, which acts as an insurance broker as well as HR/benefits and payroll provider. Prices start at $39/month plus $6 per employee. Workers Compensation for roofers generally has a minimum premium as roofing is high risk business with injuries being rather severe and sometimes resulting in death. If your company is small and not going to generate a premium high enough to meet the minimum you are best to go to a PEO or payroll company that will offer workers compensation included with payroll. This can also be helpful for cash flow as you “pay as you go” with the insurance cost be charged with each payroll. ADP offers work comp with payroll. If you are going to generate at least the $25,000 minimum it is usually more cost effective to purchase the workers compensation directly from the carrier so you can take advantage of credits and discounts available. Speak to your agent who handles your general liability for the roofing business they will probably have a workers compensation company that handles roofing also.
