I recently received the following question from a reader after he read the TV Advertising Guide article.
I have a very broad general question: In your opinion, what would be the average number of 30-second TV Ads that a brand could broadcast on a Cable TV station like MTV or Comedy Central in a single day, for example?
Here’s my response:
As a small business, it’s important that you have an effective strategy in place before you begin running TV ads. That’s because advertising on TV is more expensive than many other forms of advertising (eg: Facebook, Google or radio).
The best way to get the most bang for your buck is to make sure your ads are being shown to your target audience multiple times. In order to reach the same audience, it’s more effective to advertise during the same period, multiple days in a row than to advertise multiple times in the same day. That’s because people often watch at the same time of day every day, and not all day.
Therefore I’d suggest working with your local TV station to come up with a schedule that employs this strategy. You can find your local TV stations here and find which cable providers serve your area here.
