I’m considering applying for the Small Business Accounting and Tax Writer position. Since it appears that you are working in a similar role, can you tell me if this work is truly 40 hours each week? I appreciate your insights.
Thank you very much for your question – we’re glad that you’re thinking about joining us here at Fit Small Business. Forty hours is generally a good rule of thumb for our writers. While we have some who do some guest contributions aside from FSB or pursue other projects, writing for FSB is definitely a full-time job.
Our team of professional writers usually write between 2 and 4 articles per week. We’re also in charge of shepherding our content through all stages of our article pipeline. This means not only editing articles after receiving 1 – 3 rounds of comments from editorial staff but also following up on later stages of article preparation and reviewing content before it’s published.
Our writers are experts in their fields, so in addition to writing articles we often field press inquiries and respond to forum posts or individual article comments.
All of this together means that if you’re considering joining Fit Small Business – and we’d love to have you – you should plan to approach this as a full-time job. Over our history, we’ve occasionally had other writers join our team who planned to approach FSB as one of many freelance clients, and those writers generally had trouble keeping up with our pace. Fit Small Business is a great place to work and we have high expectations for our writers. Our goal is to publish the best content on the internet for our subject areas. If that’s your goal, too, then we’d love to hear from you!
I average between 35-55 hours a week. In the first few months, you’ll put in a lot of hours learning our process. But we’re not paid based on hours, we’re paid based on productivity. It’s a full-time job. I love it. Good luck. We’re in need of someone with deep knowledge on taxes! Hoping some of our other writers chime in.
