What helped me to be a good manager was to instead look at myself as simply a part of the team that worked right along side of them. Be true to your word and if something is your responsibility never pass the buck. I made mistakes as a manager and the best thing I ever did was to admit them, apologize if necessary, and make any changes to ensure it didn’t happen again. Make your expectations clear and never assume anyone knows what you are thinking or want. Stand up for your staff and do the right things for them and for the company. Expect the best from them and find their individual strengths and work on those more than the weaknesses. Always look to be better at what you are doing – read, study, talk to your team and get real feedback. They want a leader not a boss.
