It has done a good job of making a complex system user-friendly. I first came across Vtiger when I was tearing my hair out with one its competitors and I discovered that it was based on the competing product. It was a revelation when I started to use it as it was very intuitive and easy to use.
Compared with some dedicated systems it is not as slick. For instance, although it can do pretty much what MailChimp does at a more competitive price if you are into big volumes, it is not as easy to use. It very much depends on what aspects of the system you wish to use.
I have not come across anything negative about the company. They are based in India and provide very good support.
