Summary of User Reviews
We looked around the web and found that Zenefits has generally positive ratings. Here’s what we found:
What Zenefits does well:
Small businesses that left positive reviews said they loved how Zenefits allowed them to perform all of their HR related tasks in one place. Also, small businesses tend to need only the most basic of features, which the service offers for free.
What Zenefits does not do well:
Negative reviewers of Zenefits said the service had poor support. Customer service representatives weren’t very knowledgeable and it was difficult to get a response through email.
Most Helpful Positive User Review
One user who gave Zenefits a 5-star review said the service was great for startup businesses because of its free offering. The free service does not include payroll features, but the service integrates well with other payroll software, which solves the problem.
Most Helpful Negative User Review
One 1-star reviewer said that the service was buggy, which meant requiring the services of customer support frequently. This was a problem in itself – according to the user, since the delay on responses from email support was inconvenient for busy businesses, and their phone support felt like it was filled with agents who were still in training and didn’t know much about their own product.

|Pricing per month|
|Manage Employee Info|
Zenefits offers four plans, ranging in price from $0 to $12 per month per employee. We chose to include the 3 plans that are most suitable for small business owners in the chart. The free service allows companies to manage employee information, from hiring tools to employee reports. It also allows companies to manage their employee benefits like medical, dental and vision. If you go for the Silver you get advanced HR features such as performance reporting, automatic employee document filing, Standard and Custom PTO Packages and Federal deadline tracking. You also gain access to the program’s comprehensive HR Resource Library. The Bronze and Silver packages don’t come with Payroll features. You have to opt for the Gold plan to take advantage of it.
Aside from the features listed in the chart, small business can also purchase the following additional features:
|Commuter Benefits||$4 per month per employee|
|Time and Attendance||$5 per month per employee|
|Contractor Transactions||$2 per transaction|
|Health Savings||$2.50 per month per employee|
Zenefits also has good third-party integration with programs like GSuite, Intuit, Salesforce, Microsoft and others, which means you can either purchase Zenefit’s add-ons, or use the integration feature to use another program.
Best Pricing Option for Small Business Owners
Startups can make do with the free services of Zenefits, as it does well in terms of HR related tasks like recruitment, hiring and employee reporting. If you don’t’ want to upgrade to the next plan, but you need features that are not found in the free version of Zenefits, you can always find a third-party program that integrates well with Zenefits to fill the gap. However, if you want to manage your employees and conduct payroll in the same place, the Gold plan is the best pick for you.
