A good mileage tracker app not only saves you time but also saves you money. They must be flexible no matter what type of driving you do, whether you work for a ridesharing service or you’re a real estate agent driving from one appointment to the next. We evaluated more than 20 mileage tracker apps and selected the top five apps that will help you track your business miles easily and efficiently.
The best mileage tracker apps for small businesses are:
- TripLog: Best overall app for drivers who do a lot of daily business driving
- Hurdlr: Best for part-time and side gig mileage tracking
- QuickBooks Online: Best for businesses who use QuickBooks Online
- SherpaShare: Best for rideshare drivers
- MileIQ: Best for businesses with teams of drivers
TripLog: Best Overall Mileage Tracker App
TripLog is best suited for small businesses that do a lot of daily driving. The app allows your drivers to track everything you need, including mileage, gas, tolls, parking, and meals. The TripLog app is available for iOS & Android platforms and can be accessed via the web with some plans. The interface on both the app and browser dashboard are easy to use.
TripLog Pricing & Features
Not only does TripLog offer prices that will work with any small business’ budget, but it also offers a 30-day free trial. After you’ve finished the trial, you can continue to use the app for free if you only have one person who will be using it.
TripLog Free Plan
You can use the free plan in the app only—and only one user is permitted. The basic features offered in the free tier are:
- Manual mileage tracking
- Unlimited trips
- Expense tracking
- Fuel economy calculation
- Track up to five vehicles
- Lifetime bug fixes and updates
TripLog Professional Plan
This plan level includes everything from the TripLog Free plan as well as some additional features and functionality. The Professional tier costs $4 per month and is limited to one user. The additional features offered with this tier are:
- Auto drive tracking
- Web dashboard
- Syncing between multiple devices and the web
- Tax reports
- Frequent driving routes
- Receipt photo loading to cloud storage
TripLog Professional Plus
The TripLog Professional Plus plan includes everything from the Professional Plan. It also allows between one and five users and allows app and cloud use. This tier costs $6 per month, per user, with a limit of five users. Additional features included at this level include:
- Bookkeeping and import transactions from your banks and credit cards
- Accountants dashboard
- QuickBooks/Xero integration
- Concur integration
- 6 or more vehicles per user
TripLog Enterprise
This is the custom level plan. You have to contact TripLog to discuss your needs and get a price quote for the package. This tier of subscription includes everything from the Professional Plus plan as well as:
- Company administration console
- Turn on/off specific web and app features
- Approval management
- Department/office identification
- Fleet tracking in real-time
- Custom integration capabilities
- Single sign-on
- Company address book
- Time-tracking reports
TripLog Devices
There are two devices you can purchase that will allow you to auto track your driving. This means as soon as you begin to drive, the device tells the app to start recording your drive and when you stop driving, the app stops tracking. These devices are the TripLog Drive and the iBeacon.
The TripLog Drive device costs $79.99 and offers USB power, Bluetooth low-energy use, a built-in GPS, and has a button on it that can be pressed to indicate how the current trip should be classified. It also stores data for offline use.
The iBeacon device will run you $19.99. It is also USB powered and has Bluetooth capabilities to auto track your drives. However, the iBeacon does not have offline storage, built-in GPS, nor the drive classification button.
What TripLog Is Missing
One disadvantage to TripLog is that it will take a bit longer than MileIQ to get your team up and running. The TripLog administrator must set up the access levels for each driver who uses the app. However, this is a one-time setup process and is not difficult to do. You also can choose to modify a driver’s access by turning on or off features in the app.
Hurdlr: Best for Part-time Mileage Tracking
If you are looking for an app that can help you stay on top of paying your state and self-employment taxes throughout the year, then Hurdlr is your best bet. By connecting your bank/credit card accounts to Hurdlr, the app will calculate your estimated taxes, remind you when payment is due, and allow you to make your payment all from the app.
Hurdlr Pricing & Features
Hurdlr Free Plan
Hurdlr’s free plan includes all the basic features you will need in a mileage tracking app. However, unlike the paid tiers of Hurdlr, the free plan is mostly manual entry. The Premium and Pro plans include some automation. The free plan includes:
- Unlimited, semi-automatic mileage tracking
- Track income and expenses manually
- Tax calculation summary
- Export or email standard financial reports
Hurdlr Premium Plan
The premium plan costs $8 per month and is for drivers who need to track information in more detail than the tracking options offered in the free plan. With the premium plan, you get all the features from the free plan as well as:
- Automatic mileage tracking
- Automatic expense and income tracking
- Real-time detailed tax calculations, including state and self-employed taxes
- One-touch classification for personal or business mileage
- Set your work hours
- Create custom rules
Hurdlr Pro Plan
Hurdlr’s Pro plan offering costs $10 per month and must be billed annually, not monthly. It includes all the features of the Premium plan as well as:
- Full, double-entry accounting
- Invoicing
- Advanced reports
Hurdlr Enterprise Plan
The enterprise plan is Hurdlr’s custom pricing level. You have to consult with a Hurdlr representative to discuss your needs and get a custom price quote. In addition to all the features discussed above, the enterprise plan also includes:
- Single billing
- Live training
- Direct integrations
What Hurdler Is Missing
Hurdlr is best for independent contractors that drive for the majority of their work. As such, it is not made for use with teams and does not have an admin dashboard or the option to control features for another user, unlike TripLog, and MileIQ.
QuickBooks Mileage Tracker App: Best for QuickBooks Online Users
The QuickBooks mileage tracker app is a great tool for people who already use QuickBooks Self-Employed or QuickBooks Online and is included in their mobile app, which we awarded the Best Overall Mobile Accounting App. The information you track in the app is stored in your accounting records automatically. This makes it easy to bill clients for driving time and miles, reimburse a contractor or employee for their mileage and expenses, or track the expense of using the vehicle for business-related purposes. QuickBooks Online offers a few different subscription plans at different price points to consider.
QuickBooks Mileage Tracker Pricing & Features
The mileage tracker app has the same features no matter which tier of QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed you subscribe to. Some of the features included in the app are:
- Automatic GPS tracking
- Expense tracking and organization
- Low energy use
- Manual entry capability
- Integration with QuickBooks Online or Self-Employed
- Billable mileage tracking
- Report creation and exporting
- Business and personal trip categorization
- Detailed and shareable reports
What QuickBooks Mileage Tracker App Is Missing
The downside to the QuickBooks Mileage Tracker App is that it does not offer a free version and can end up being more expensive than its competitors. However, because QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed are accounting software with a built-in mileage app at no additional charge, it has a ton of other features not offered by the other five apps in this list.
SherpaShare: Best for Rideshare Drivers
SherpaShare is a unique app specifically designed for drivers who make their living by delivering clients to their destinations like work, school, or the airport. Unlike its competitors, it includes Smart Driver tools that can help track your hourly profit and make suggestions on which routes are the most profitable.
SherpaShare Pricing & Features
SherpaShare Monthly/Annual Plan
Although SherpaShare does not offer a free plan, it does offer a two-week free trial that includes all the features of the app. Their basic plan can be paid monthly or annually. The monthly cost is $5.99 while you’ll pay $59.99 if billed annually, saving you $12. All subscription tiers include these features:
- Passenger locating tools
- Driver to driver communications
- Unlimited mileage tracking
- Revenue and profit charts
- Member savings
- 24/7 in-app support based in the United States
- Set your working hours and schedule
SherpaShare Super Premium Plan
The super premium plan costs $10 per month and is billed annually at $120. In addition to the basic features listed above, this subscription tier also includes:
- Priority support including phone support
- Access SherpaShare #slack club for real-time chats and support
- Access to an exclusive list of deals and promotions
- Access to DriverOps Premium Packages
What SherpaShare Is Missing
SherpaShare was built specifically for rideshare drivers. It includes features and functionality that is especially useful for people who drive for rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft as an independent contractor. This app allows you to track everything you need to be organized and documented properly when tax time rolls around.
MileIQ: Best for Businesses With Teams of Drivers
MileIQ is a unique offering in that it is included, at no additional cost, with an Office 365 Business Premium subscription. However, you do not have to have Office 365 to use this no-frills mileage tracker app.
MileIQ Pricing & Features
MileIQ Basic Plan
The MileIQ basic plan is free. It works the same as the paid plans as far as the app’s functionality. However, there are some limitations to the free plan. With the MileIQ basic plan, you can use the following features:
- 40 drives per month
- Automatic mileage tracking
- Drive classification between business or personal
- Personalization options
- Mobile or desktop detailed drive reports
- Mobile and desktop access
MileIQ Unlimited Plan
The unlimited plan includes everything from the basic plan. The only difference is the number of drives you can track per month. With the unlimited plan, there is no limit on the number of drives you can track each month. The MileIQ unlimited plan is offered monthly at $5.99 per month. However, if you pay for a year in advance, you pay $59.99, which works out to $4.99 per month.
MileIQ Teams Plan
The teams plan is just what it sounds like. It is a custom plan that comes with custom pricing. With the MileIQ Teams plan you get everything from the basic and unlimited plans as well as:
- Volume discount
- Single billing
- Expert help
- Private and secure
What MileIQ Is Missing
You cannot track your income and expenses in MileIQ. It also does not integrate with your accounting software seamlessly as most of the other apps mentioned do. There are not many bells and whistles with this app, but it tracks mileage well.
How We Determined the Best Mileage Tracker Apps
When considering which mileage tracker apps are best suited to small businesses, we looked at the best solutions currently available that are affordable for small businesses and accessible on multiple platforms like iOS and Android. We also analyzed any devices that were offered to work with the app.
We concluded that TripLog is the best mileage tracker app for most small businesses. All of the options we reviewed are available for both Android and iOS. All five apps offer a combination of customer support options, including phone, email, and knowledge base articles.
Bottom Line
If you are a business owner or freelancer who occasionally travels to your client’s offices, any of the free versions offered by TripLog or MileIQ will work just fine. However, if you are someone who drives a every day for your job, you might need an app that goes the extra mile. For a more feature-rich mileage tracker app, we recommend Hurdlr, QuickBooks Mileage Tracker App, or SherpaShare for rideshare drivers.

Thanks Eileen. We’ve been using Everlance for the vehicle I share with my partner. However, Everlance doesn’t have a way to detect or eliminate duplicate miles. Whichever app can solve this problem is going to be the winner; I’m currently looking into TripLog and their new Drive module / iBeacon. With one of these, since the detection should be able to detect the “serial number” of the devices, I hope that the duplicate miles problem will go away. (Also, TripLog says that on their website they have a duplicate miles eliminator.) Please include this factor in your next update 🙂

Hello Crystalynn, I truly love the information you are providing. I do Uber/Lyft and need a mileage counter but at the end of the year provide the tax information to my CPA. I’m also not an LLC, based on your article I can not use QBSE.
Crystalynn Shelton
Hi Carlos, so glad you liked our article on The Best Mileage Tracker app! You don’t need to be an LLC to use QBSE. If we gave that impression, I didn’t mean to. QuickBooks Self-Employed is ideal for anyone that is a sole proprietor or an LLC with a single member.

I used MileIQ and TripLog for tracking my fleet’s maintenance and mileage but the major reason for stopping using this app is cost. MileIQ cost around $60/year and TripLog costs around $40/year.
Then, I start using Simply Auto that fulfills all my requirement including tax-deduction, auto trip logging more other features, and its subscription costs only $9.99/year.
Thank you 🙂
Dana
Does any of these apps integrate with TEAM accounting software?
Crystalynn Shelton
Hi Dana, I’ve actually never heard of TEAM before so I looked up their website. Based on the product integrations listed on their website, I would have to say no that they do not integrate with any of the mileage tracker apps that we included in our Best Mileage Tracker Apps. However, I do recommend that you reach out to them just to double check. I’ve included a link to their contact information below:http://teamsoftware.com/contact/. If they say that their system does not integrate with any of the apps we included, ask them if there are any mileage tracker apps that do integrate with their product.
Best of luck,

Dana, we use Everlance (everlance.com/teams) and they have a teams package that I think would help.
