Wave Payroll is an add-on service to Wave’s free accounting software that allows you to pay employees and contractors and offers workers’ compensation insurance. Small businesses that don’t have complex payroll needs and are already using Wave accounting software can benefit from adding its payroll service. At $40 base fee plus $6 per employee per month for full tax services, it is slightly less expensive than Gusto.

If you need to pause your payroll (e.g., seasonal business) but still want access to reporting and employee data, you can switch to Wave’s Limited Access Subscription. For $17 a month, you can keep access to your plan and add new employee data, but not generate a payroll.
