With all of its customization options and resellers, Clover’s pricing can be difficult to understand. Our guide will help you make sure you’re getting the best price.
Clover POS Pricing: Software, Hardware & Processing Fees
This article is part of a larger series on POS Systems.
Clover POS is one of the leading small business point-of-sale providers on the market. It has all the tools you need to process transactions, track inventory, and manage customers and staff, plus top-of-the-line hardware and upgrades to support you as you grow. Clover is a POS bundle for various small businesses, including retail, restaurants, and service providers. Plans and costs vary, but generally, monthly fees range from $15 to $300.
You can purchase the POS directly through Clover, with its default processor, Fiserv, or through one of the software’s authorized resellers—letting you get the rates you want, especially if you want to use a specific merchant account. However, this flexibility can cause discrepancies in processing rates and hardware fees between Clover and resellers. This can lead to confusion about whether you are getting a good deal or not or if you are overpaying.
No fear, though! Here, we will take a look at Clover’s POS system pricing, including software, hardware, and processing fees.

Clover POS Software Pricing
Clover has six different industry-specific POS system software, each with its own Clover pricing plan. Each type of POS comes with its own toolset and several upgrade options to support your business as it scales.
If you purchase through Clover, you will sign up for an account that fits your needs, including hardware and Clover’s in-house payment processing via Fiserv. Alternatively, if you purchase Clover POS through an authorized reseller, you will get your hardware and configuration of your POS through them, but your monthly software fees will be the same and paid to Clover.

Clover POS Hardware Pricing
In addition to software, Clover also offers its own POS hardware that is required in order to operate Clover POS. Different subscription plans include different types of hardware, depending on your needs and budget.
In most cases, you will pay for your hardware and software through your monthly Clover subscription. However, you can also buy your hardware outright and then only pay your software fees each month (see details in software pricing above).
If you buy your Clover hardware through a third-party merchant rather than through Clover, you may pay a slightly higher price and will likely have to buy your hardware outright. Additionally, once your account is configured, you cannot change processors without opening a new Clover account and acquiring new hardware.
Here are the hardware options that Clover offers.

Clover Processing Fees
Clover’s payment processing is where its pricing structure gets interesting. You have two options when signing up for Clover—you can either use Clover’s default processor, Fiserv (rates below), or you can sign up through an authorized merchant. If you choose the latter option, developers will configure your Clover POS so your payments are processed through the merchant’s rates.
The flexibility to use any merchant account allows you to choose a processor with favorable rates, such as interchange plus pricing or volume discounts. This is ideal for larger businesses processing high transaction volume and those trying to avoid Fiserv—a payment processor that does not have the best reputation.
If you purchase directly through Clover and use its default Fiserv processing, your rates will be:
- In-person: 2.3%–2.6%* + 10 cents
- Online: 3.5% + 10 cents
*Depends on the plan. 2.6% for Starter and 2.3% for Standard and Advanced.
If you buy through one of Clover’s authorized partners, your processing rates will likely be lower, and you will be able to choose a high-risk processor, one that offers volume discounts, or even a merchant with interchange rates. The con to going through a reseller rather than Clover is that you will likely pay more for your hardware and initial configuration (which is free with Clover). You should weigh these costs alongside the money you will save on processing fees to determine if buying through Clover or a reseller will be more cost-effective.

Clover’s monthly POS fees will vary depending on the type of POS you choose, how you choose to pay for your software (outright or financing), and your plan. Generally, Clover’s monthly fees range from $15–$300 per month.
Clover is better if you want the flexibility to choose your own payment processor. Otherwise, we recommend Square.
Yes, Clover is more expensive than Square, but that is largely due to the hardware that comes with each account. Square starts at $0/month but does not include any hardware.
